Success Story of Oprah Winfrey

No doubt you’re aware of the inspirational success of Oprah Winfrey. Oprah is one of the most inspirational women in the world. Her life itself says that “Life is not a bed of roses but are those with thorns on it, one should make the roses bed by themselves.” Oprah Winfrey’s success story has inspired millions of people around the world.

Oprah Winfrey was born in 1957 in rural Mississippi, with a poor background and all sorts of pathetic circumstances. She was born to a single teenage mother. Her mother was a housemaid and couldn’t afford to give necessities for her child. Being poor and black girl in America in the 1960’s filled her childhood with terrible abuse and poverty. She was raised by her grandmother, more often beaten by her. She even had to cover her body by wearing potato sacks. Also, she was molested by her cousin, uncle, and a family friend at the age of 9 years. After facing all of that she ran away from home at the age of 13yrs. And she gave birth to a premature baby, who died shortly after birth, at age 14.

Oprah showed tremendous strength of personality at an early age. Her grandmother though very strict to her made Oprah learn to read and write. And soon learned and recited all the verses of the Bible that made her “The Preacher” at the church. Later on, she shifted with her father who gave importance to her studies. She continued her schooling, though it was hard to survive among them as she was abused for her poverty and skin color, but never gave up.

A Ray of Hope

She was elected as the school president and won a public speaking contest. That gave her a scholarship for higher education. Oprah’s grandmother saw her passion and skill of public speaking and encouraged the young woman so thoroughly that it helped her to build a positive sense of self-worth.
