The new Apple Series 6 watch can measure the blood oxygen level in your body within 15 seconds. Apple’s new watch has a heath sensor that helps users know how well oxygenated their blood is. The blood oxygen level tells the oxygen level in your body that your RBCs carry from your lungs to the rest of your body. This feature of Apple’s new watch will keep users updated with their overall health and wellness. However, this feature is not available in all regions. The new Apple Watch sensor uses green, red, and infrared LEDs, in addition to the four photodiodes on the backside of the Apple Watch to measure the light reflected from the blood. The new watch measures blood oxygen levels between 70% to 100%. The watch also records the background measurement while you are sleeping. These measurements will also help people with chronic diseases like asthma, heart disease, and pulmonary disease in measuring their blood oxygen level.
How to Set Up Blood Oxygen in Apple’s New Watch
- Click the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Make sure you have an iPhone 6s or later with iOS 14.
- Tap My Watch and then Blood Oxygen option.
- Now turn on the Blood Oxygen Measurements, and the measurement tool will be active on your watch.
How to Turn Off Background Measurements in Sleep Mode and Theatre Mode
When you turn on the blood oxygen measurement, the watch uses the bright red light that will continue shining against your wrist. Sometimes this light becomes too distracting, especially in dark places. You can turn off the background measurements in sleep or theatre mode. Here are the steps:
- Go to the Settings in your Apple Watch.
- Touch the Blood Oxygen option.
- Turn off the blood oxygen measurement in Sleep Mode and Theater Mode.
How to Measure Your Blood Oxygen Level
The new apple watch periodically measures your blood’s oxygen level throughout the day, provided your background measurements are active. Although, you can take an on-demand measurement at any time of the day.
- Go to the Blood Oxygen app on your Apple Watch.
- Rest your arm on your lap or the flat surface. Keep your wrist straight with the new Apple Watch display facing towards the upside.
- Touch the Start and hold your arm very still till the end of the 15-second countdown.
- Once the screen of your watch shows the results. Tap Done.
For best results, make sure the back of your Apple Watch is in contact with your skin. Do not wear your Apple Watch too tight or too loose. Let your skin breathe. Wearing neither too tight nor too loose watch will give a more accurate result regarding the measurement of your blood oxygen level.
